In this tutorial we&#8217;ll show you 3 simple ways to find if you use a local account or a Microsoft account in Windows 10 \/ 8.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Method 1: Find If You Use Local or Microsoft Account from PC Settings<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To get started, press <strong>Windows<\/strong> logo key + <strong>I<\/strong> simultaneously to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/6-ways-to-open-pc-settings-in-windows-10\/\" target=\"_blank\">open the Settings app<\/a>. Click <strong>Accounts<\/strong> and then select the <strong>Your info<\/strong> tab in the left pane.<\/p>\n<p>If you are logged in as a local account, you&#8217;ll see the text label <strong>Local Account<\/strong> under your account name (see the screenshot below). You can also find if your account is a local account or a Microsoft account. When booting to Windows sign-in screen, type an incorrect password and press Enter.<\/p>\n<p>If your selected user is a local account, you&#8217;ll get a failure message that says &#8220;<em>The password is incorrect. Try again.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/forgot-local-account-password.jpg\" alt=\"forgot-local-account-password\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9013\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If your selected user is a Microsoft account, you&#8217;ll see the following error message that prompts you to reset password online via Microsoft website:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;That password is incorrect. Make sure you&#8217;re using the password for your Microsoft account. You can always reset it at account.live.com\/password\/reset.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/forgot-microsoft-account-password.jpg\" alt=\"forgot-microsoft-account-password\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9014\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Method 3: Find If You Use Local or Microsoft Account Using PowerShell<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Type <strong>PowerShell<\/strong> into the Cortana search box (lower left of your screen), and click <strong>Windows PowerShell<\/strong> from the search result.<\/p>\n<p>This will bring up the PowerShell console. Once here, type <strong>whoami<\/strong> and hit Enter. This will display the user you are currently logged in.<\/p>\n<p>Next, you can use the <em>Get-LocalUser<\/em> cmdlet to view your account details.
