When prompted <strong>Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your PC?<\/strong> Choose <strong>Yes<\/strong>.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/regedit-via-run.png\" alt=\"regedit-via-run\" width=\"399\" height=\"206\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7481\" \/><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following key:<br \/>\n<code>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer\\Shell Icons<\/code><\/p>\n<p>\tIf the <strong>Shell Icons<\/strong> key does not exist you&#8217;ll need to create it. To do so right-click the <strong>Explorer<\/strong> key in the left pane, then select <strong>New<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Key<\/strong> and name it <strong>Shell Icons<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/create-shell-icons-key.png\" alt=\"create-shell-icons-key\" width=\"594\" height=\"332\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7840\" \/><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>In the right pane of the <strong>Shell Icons<\/strong> key, right-click on any empty area, and select <strong>New<\/strong> &gt; <strong>String Value<\/strong>. Name it <strong>29<\/strong>.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/add-string-value.png\" alt=\"add-string-value\" width=\"594\" height=\"294\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7841\" \/><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>Double-click the <strong>29<\/strong> entry to modify it. In the Value Data box, copy and paste the following:<br \/>\n<code>%windir%\\System32\\shell32.dll,-50<\/code><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/remove-shortcut-arrow.png\" alt=\"remove-shortcut-arrow\" width=\"594\" height=\"294\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7842\" \/><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong> and exit Registry Editor. Reboot your computer and you should no longer see the little arrow in your desktop shortcuts. That&#8217;s it!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Problem of Black Square:<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>Everything worked just fine but after a second shut down, all shortcut icons have a blank square superimposed over the lower left side. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/shortcut-black-square.png\" alt=\"shortcut-black square\" width=\"176\" height=\"302\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7847\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To fix this issue, just open the Registry Editor and navigate to KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer\\Shell Icons.
