If your Start Menu has gotten overly cluttered, or want to restore the tiles that you&#8217;ve unpinned from Start Menu, here is a simple way to reset the Start Menu layout to default in Windows 10.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/start-menu-mess-up.png\" alt=\"start-menu-mess-up\" width=\"450\" height=\"427\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6725\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>How to Reset Start Menu Layout to Default in Windows 10?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Before getting started, you need to <a style=\"text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/3-ways-to-create-new-administrator-account-in-windows-10\/\" target=\"_blank\">create a new administrator account in Windows 10<\/a>. If you haven&#8217;t <a style=\"text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/4-ways-to-enable-built-in-administrator-account-on-windows\/\" target=\"_blank\">enabled the built-in Administrator account<\/a> before, just activate it if you don&#8217;t want to create a new administrator account.<\/p>\n<p>The first time you log into the new administrator account (In my example, it&#8217;s <em>Administrator<\/em>), Windows 10 will set up the default apps, programs, tiles for the Start Menu. Windows 10 keeps almost all data related to Start Menu in the following directory:<br \/>\n<code>C:\\Users\\{new_administrator_account}\\AppData\\Local\\TileDataLayer<\/code><\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> <em>You need to <a style=\"text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/how-to-show-hidden-files-in-windows-10-8-7-and-vista\/\" target=\"_blank\">configure Windows 10 to show hidden files<\/a> if you want to see the <strong>TileDataLayer<\/strong> folder.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Now log off the new administrator account, and log in with your regular account (In my example, it&#8217;s <em>Tom<\/em>). Browse to the folder: <code>C:\\Users\\{new_administrator_account}\\AppData\\Local<\/code>, and copy the <em>TileDataLayer<\/em>\u00a0folder to the root path of <em>C:\\<\/em> drive for backuping.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/copy-tiledatalayer.png\" alt=\"copy-tiledatalayer\" width=\"600\" height=\"468\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6726\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Log off your regular account, and log in with the new administrator account. Copy the backup folder <em>C:\\TileDataLayer<\/em>\u00a0and paste it into the directory <code>C:\\Users\\{regular_account}\\AppData\\Local<\/code>.
