Unable to switch to a different account as the &#8220;Switch user&#8221; option is greyed out? <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/win7-switch-user.png\" alt=\"win7-switch-user\" width=\"478\" height=\"516\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6084\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In this tutorial we&#8217;ll show you 2 ways to enable or disable Fast User Switching in Windows 11, 10, 8, 7 and Vista.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Method 1: Using Local Group Policy Editor<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box. Type <strong>gpedit.msc<\/strong> and press Enter.<\/li>\n<li>The Local Group Policy Editor console should open. In the left pane, expand the following nodes:<br \/>\n<code>Local Computer Policy\\Computer Configuration\\Administrative Templates\\System\\Logon<\/code><\/li>\n<li>In right-side pane, double-click on the &#8220;<strong>Hide entry points for Fast User Switching<\/strong>&#8221; policy and its properties screen will open.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/hide-fast-user-switch.png\" alt=\"hide-fast-user-switch\" width=\"600\" height=\"328\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6085\" \/><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>If you want to turn off \/ disable the Fast User Switching feature, set it to <strong>Enabled<\/strong>. Or click <strong>Disabled<\/strong> or &#8220;<strong>Not configured<\/strong>&#8221; to re-enable Fast User Switching.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>By disabling the Fast User Switching feature, the &#8220;<em>Switch user<\/em>&#8221; option will be greyed out or removed from Windows logon screen,Start menu and the Task Manager.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Method 2: Using Registry Trick<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Since Group Policy Editor doesn&#8217;t come with the Home and Starter editions of Windows, here is another method to enable \/ disable Fast User Switching using Registry Editor:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box. Type <strong>regedit<\/strong> and press Enter.<\/li>\n<li>In the Registry Editor window, navigate to the following key:<br \/>\n\t<code>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Policies\\System<\/code><\/li>\n<li>In the right-side pane, search for the value named <strong>HideFastUserSwitching<\/strong>. If it doesn&#8217;t exist, you can create one by right-clicking in the empty space on the right pane and choose <strong>New<\/strong> \u2013&gt; <strong>DWORD (32-bit)<\/strong> Value.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/hide-fast-user-switching.png\" alt=\"hide-fast-user-switching\" width=\"600\" height=\"360\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6086\" \/><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>Set the Value data for <strong>HideFastUserSwitching<\/strong> to <strong>1<\/strong> if you want to disable the Fast User Switching feature. To re-enable it, change that value to <strong>0<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Close the Registry Editor.
