Here are 3 ways to turn off Windows Defender in Windows 10 or 8.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Method 1: Permanently Turn off Windows Defender with Group Policy<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press the Windows key + R to bring up the Run box. Type <strong>gpedit.msc<\/strong> and hit Enter.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/gpedit.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"399\" height=\"206\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9207\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>In the left pane of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/open-local-group-policy-editor-in-windows-10\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Local Group Policy Editor<\/a>, navigate to the following location:<br \/>\n\t<code>Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Defender Antivirus -> Real-time Protection<\/code><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/windows-defender-antivirus.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"601\" height=\"329\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13959\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the right pane you will see a policy labeled &#8220;<strong>Turn off real-time protection<\/strong>&#8220;. Double-click on it to modify.\n<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Enabled<\/strong>. Click Apply and then OK.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/turn-off-real-time-protection.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"505\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13960\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>You have to restart the computer to allow this policy to take place. When you try to turn on real-time protection again in Windows Defender, you&#8217;ll get a message that saying &#8220;<em>This setting is managed by your administrator<\/em>&#8220;.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Method 2: Permanently Turn off Windows Defender with Command Prompt<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/open-command-prompt-in-windows-10\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Open the Command Prompt as administrator<\/a>.
