Backing up your Outlook data is an important job especially if your computer crashes or if your want to transfer them to a new computer.<\/p>\n<p>In this article, I explain how to easily backup Outlook mail messages and then restore (or transfer) them to another Windows-based computer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Part 1: Backup Outlook Mail Messages<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Click Start, and then click the Control Panel.\n<\/li>\n<li>In the upper right corner of the Control Panel, click the pull-down menu and choose <strong>Small Icons<\/strong>. Double-click on <strong>Mail<\/strong>.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/control-panel.png\" alt=\"control-panel\" width=\"547\" height=\"317\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4531\" \/><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>The Mail Setup window should be open now. Click on the the <strong>Data Files<\/strong> button.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/mail-setup.png\" alt=\"mail-setup\" width=\"423\" height=\"306\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4532\" \/><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>In the Account settings window, select a mail account (in case of multiple ones) and click on the <strong>Open Folder<\/strong> button.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/open-pst-folder.png\" alt=\"open-pst-folder\" width=\"600\" height=\"490\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4533\" \/><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>Windows Explorer will open to the Outlook .PST file that contains mail messages for your selected mail account.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/backup-pst-file.png\" alt=\"backup-pst-file\" width=\"589\" height=\"317\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4534\" \/><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>With Outlook closed and the folder open, copy the .PST file to a safe location, such as an external hard drive. Better yet, make sure that your regular backup routine includes this folder.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Part 2: Restore Outlook Mail Messages<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here is how to import the .PST file back into Outlook to gain access to your mail messages again.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>In Outlook application, click the <strong>File<\/strong> menu. Navigate to the <strong>Open<\/strong> sub-menu, then click <strong>Outlook Data File<\/strong>.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/import-outlook-pst.png\" alt=\"import-outlook-pst\" width=\"584\" height=\"366\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4535\" \/><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>Navigate to wherever your .PST file is located.
