If you try to run the Modern app such as Calendar, Photos or Internet Explorer, you&#8217;ll get this error message: &#8220;This app can&#8217;t be opened using the Built-in Administrator account please sign in with a different account and try again.&#8221; or &#8220;This app can&#8217;t be activated by the Built-in Administrator&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/app-cant-open-for-built-in-admin.png\" alt=\"modern app can&#039;t be opened with built-in administrator account\" width=\"500\" height=\"223\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3299\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Windows 8 Modern App requires that the UAC (User Account Control) be enabled. If you&#8217;ve disabled UAC on your computer, you need to turn on UAC again. Here are additional steps to fix this problem:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Press the Windows key + R to bring up the Run box, and then type <strong>secpol.msc<\/strong>. Press Enter.<\/li>\n<li>On the Local Security Policy window, navigate to Security Settings \u2013&gt; Local Policies \u2013&gt; Security Options.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/local-security-policy.png\" alt=\"local-security-policy\" width=\"500\" height=\"292\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3300\" \/><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>On the right panel, double-click on the option &#8220;<strong>User Account Control: Admin Approval mode for the Built-in Administrators Account<\/strong>&#8221; and enable it.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/admin-approval-mode.png\" alt=\"admin-approval-mode\" width=\"431\" height=\"372\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3301\" \/><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>Click on Apply and exit Local Security Policy.<\/li>\n<li>Press the Windows key + R to bring up the Run box, and then type <strong>regedit<\/strong>. Press Enter.<\/li>\n<li>On the Registry Editor window, navigate to <strong>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Policies\\System\\UIPI<\/strong>. On the right side, double-click on default and change the value to &#8220;0x00000001(1)&#8221;. Click OK.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/system-UIPI.png\" alt=\"system-UIPI\" width=\"500\" height=\"264\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3302\" \/><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>Restart your computer. Now you should be able to run Modern UI Apps using the Built-in Administrator account.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> If you are unable to log on Windows 8 \/ 8.1 as the built-in administrator account, you can <a href=\"http:\/\/www.top-password.com\/knowledge\/enable-built-in-administrator-account-to-log-on-windows.html\" style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">enable the built-in administrator account to log on Windows<\/a> easily.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After installing or upgrading to Windows 8 \/ 8.1, you might find that the built-in Administrator account is unable to run any Modern UI Apps.
