This will cause the problem that bootable media from previous versions of Windows may not be recognized in Windows 10 \/ 8 computer. To resolve this problem, you need to switch your BIOS mode from UEFI BIOS to Legacy BIOS. No doing so would prevent the installation of Linux, Windows 7, or any other OS.<\/p>\n<p>In this tutorial we&#8217;ll show you 3 ways to access UEFI BIOS Setup, even if you couldn&#8217;t login to Windows 10 or 8.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Option 1: Access UEFI BIOS Setup After Logging in to Windows 10\/8<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In previous post, we&#8217;ve covered <a href=\"http:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/set-windows-8-pc-to-boot-with-legacy-bios-mode-instead-of-uefi-mode\/\" style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">how to set Windows 8 PC to boot with legacy BIOS mode instead of UEFI mode<\/a>. Here we&#8217;ll show you another option to access UEFI BIOS Setup so long as you can log into Windows 10 \/ 8. Here are the steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>In Windows 8\/8.1, press the Windows key + <strong>C<\/strong>, or swipe in from the right edge of the screen to open your Charms. Click <strong>Settings<\/strong> -> <strong>Change PC Settings<\/strong>. In PC Settings, select <strong>General<\/strong>.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/pc-settings.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"pc-settings\" width=\"600\" height=\"346\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1730\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/pc-settings.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/pc-settings-300x173.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re running Windows 10, press the Windows key + <strong>I<\/strong> to open the Settings app. Click <b>Update &#038; Security<\/b>. You can then disable UEFI BIOS and Secure Boot options, and enable legacy BIOS mode.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Option 2: Access UEFI BIOS Setup without Logging in to Windows 10\/8<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>What to do if you <a href=\"http:\/\/www.top-password.com\/knowledge\/forgot-windows-password.html\">forgot Windows user password<\/a> and can&#8217;t login? Here is how you can access the UEFI BIOS Setup from Windows 10\/8 login screen:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>From the login screen, click the Power icon in the lower right corner of the screen. While holding the Shift key, select <b>Restart<\/b>.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/windows-8-login-screen.png\" width=\"500\" height=\"287\" class=\"alignnone\" \/><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>The system will not actually restart but go into the boot options. click <b>Troubleshoot<\/b>.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/troubleshoot.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"troubleshoot\" width=\"600\" height=\"294\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1731\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/troubleshoot.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/troubleshoot-300x147.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>Afterwards, click <b>Advanced options<\/b> -> <b>UEFI Firmware Settings<\/b> -> <b>Restart<\/b>.\n<\/li>\n<li>The computer will reboot and take you into the UEFI BIOS setup.\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Option 3: Access UEFI BIOS Setup from Command Prompt<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You can also boot your computer into UEFI BIOS Setup by executing a simple command at the Command Prompt.
