To get rid of the warning &#8220;<em>The app you&#8217;re trying to install isn&#8217;t a Microsoft-verified app<\/em>&#8220;, here are 3 methods to turn off app recommendations in Windows 10.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Method 1: Turn off App Recommendations via Settings<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Click the <strong>Start<\/strong> button and then click the gear icon to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/6-ways-to-open-pc-settings-in-windows-10\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">open the Settings app<\/a>.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/open-settings-app-from-start-menu.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"539\" height=\"433\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16323\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/open-settings-app-from-start-menu.png 539w, https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/open-settings-app-from-start-menu-300x241.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 539px) 100vw, 539px\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>Next, choose the <strong>Apps<\/strong> category.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/apps-settings.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"452\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15094\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>On the right side, click the &#8220;<strong>Choose where to get apps<\/strong>&#8221; drop-down list and change it from &#8220;The Microsoft Store only (Recommended)&#8221; to &#8220;<strong>Anywhere<\/strong>&#8220;.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/choose-where-to-get-apps.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"474\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16311\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/choose-where-to-get-apps.png 600w, https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/choose-where-to-get-apps-300x237.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>Close the Settings app and the warning will be gone away.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If the &#8220;Choose where to get apps&#8221; drop-down list is grayed out or missing, try to adjust the app installation policy using one of the following methods.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Method 2: Turn off App Recommendations via Group Policy<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/open-local-group-policy-editor-in-windows-10\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Open Local Group Policy Editor<\/a> and browse to: Computer Configuration -&gt; Administrative Templates -&gt; Windows Components -&gt; Windows Defender SmartScreen -&gt; Explorer.<\/li>\n<li>On the right pane, double-click on the &#8220;<strong>Configure App Install Control<\/strong>&#8221; policy to edit it.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/configure-app-install-control.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"572\" height=\"273\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16313\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/configure-app-install-control.png 572w, https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/configure-app-install-control-300x143.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 572px) 100vw, 572px\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Enabled<\/strong> and then pick up the &#8220;<strong>Turn off app recommendations<\/strong>&#8221; setting from the drop-down list.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/turn-off-app-recommendations.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"569\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16314\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/turn-off-app-recommendations.png 600w, https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/turn-off-app-recommendations-300x285.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>Click Apply and then OK. Restart your PC and Windows 10 should never prevent you from installing third-party apps or softwares.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Method 3: Turn off App Recommendations via Registry Editor<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/6-ways-to-open-registry-editor-in-windows-10\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Open Registry Editor<\/a> and navigate to: <code>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer<\/code>.
