If you want to use a more friendly OS name, here are 2 simple ways to change operating system name in Windows 10 dual-boot menu.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Method 1: Change OS Name in Dual Boot Menu from Command Prompt<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/open-elevated-command-prompt-from-standard-user-in-windows\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Open the Command Prompt as administrator<\/a>. Type <strong>bcdedit<\/strong> and hit Enter.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/bcdedit.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"576\" height=\"186\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13883\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>Have a look at the &#8220;<em>Windows Boot Loader<\/em>&#8221; sections, you can see the <strong>identifier<\/strong> and <strong>description<\/strong> for each operating system installed on your computer. Make note of the identifier for the OS you want to rename.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/windows-boot-loader-info.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"521\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13884\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>Next, run the following command. The &#8220;<em>New name<\/em>&#8221; is the desired OS name which you want to see in the boot menu.<br \/>\n<code>bcdedit \/set {identifier} description \"New name\"<\/code><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/rename-windows-10-os-in-boot-screen.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"590\" height=\"167\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13885\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>Restart your computer and you will see the new name listed for the operating system in the Windows 10 boot screen.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Method 2: Change OS Name in Dual Boot Menu from PowerShell<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/5-ways-to-run-powershell-as-administrator-in-windows-10\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Open the PowerShell as administrator<\/a> and use the same command <strong>bcdedit<\/strong> to find out the identifier of the operating system you want to rename.<\/li>\n<li>To rename your OS, type the following command.
