If your security questions are already set up, you&#8217;ll be unable to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/knowledge\/reset-windows-10-local-password-with-security-questions.html\">reset forgotten Windows login password by answering the security questions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Method 1: Prevent Use of Security Questions for Local Accounts via Group Policy<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/open-local-group-policy-editor-in-windows-10\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Open Local Group Policy Editor<\/a> and navigate to:<br \/>\n<code>Computer Configuration -&gt; Administrative Templates -&gt; Windows Components -&gt; Credential User Interface<\/code><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/prevent-use-security-questions-for-local-account.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"383\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13543\" \/><\/p>\n<p> \tIn the right pane, double-click on the &#8220;<strong>Prevent the use of security questions for local accounts<\/strong>&#8221; policy.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Enabled<\/strong> and click <strong>OK<\/strong>.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/turn-off-security-questions-in-windows-10.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"585\" height=\"446\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13544\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>To make this group policy to take effect, you need to restart Windows 10.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Method 2: Prevent Use of Security Questions for Local Accounts via Registry Editor<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/6-ways-to-open-registry-editor-in-windows-10\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Open Registry Editor<\/a> and go to the following key:<br \/>\n<code>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Policies\\Microsoft\\Windows\\System<\/code><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/create-new-dword-in-registry.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"591\" height=\"384\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13545\" \/><\/p>\n<p> \tOn the right panel, right-click any blank area and select <strong>New<\/strong> -&gt; <strong>DWORD (32-bit) Value<\/strong>. <em>Note<\/em>: if the <strong>System<\/strong> key doesn&#8217;t exist, you have to create it first.<\/li>\n<li>Name the new value as <strong>NoLocalPasswordResetQuestions<\/strong>. To disable the Security Questions feature, set its value data to 1.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/NoLocalPasswordResetQuestions.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"591\" height=\"384\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13546\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>Close the Registry editor.
