If you&#8217;re annoyed by this odd and inconsistent behavior, here are 2 simple ways to remove double blue arrows on compressed folders\/files in Windows 10.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/double-blue-arrows-overlay.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"563\" height=\"312\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11770\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Method 1: Remove Double Blue Arrows for All Compressed Folders\/Files<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All you need to do is put a blank icon file somewhere on your PC, then make a small registry change to make Windows display this blank image instead of the blue double arrows icon.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>First of all, download <a href=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/blank_icon.zip\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">blank_icon.zip<\/a> and extract the blank.ico file to C:\\Windows.<\/li>\n<li>Press the Windows key + R keyboard combination to open the Run box. Type <strong>regedit<\/strong> and press Enter to open Registry Editor.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/regedit.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"399\" height=\"206\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9183\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>Now Navigate to the following location:<br \/>\n<code>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Explorer<\/code><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/explorer-new-key.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"564\" height=\"350\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11771\" \/><\/p>\n<p> \tRight-click on the <strong>Explorer<\/strong> subkey on the left pane, and select <strong>New<\/strong> -&gt; <strong>Key<\/strong>.\n<\/li>\n<li>Name the new key &#8220;<strong>Shell Icons<\/strong>&#8220;, and then right-click it and select <strong>New<\/strong> -&gt; <strong>String Value<\/strong>.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/shell-icons-new-string.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"568\" height=\"313\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11772\" \/><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>Name the new string &#8220;<strong>179<\/strong>&#8220;, and then double-click it to set its value data to <em>C:\\Windows\\blank.ico<\/em>.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/remove-double-blue-arrows-icon.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"568\" height=\"223\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11773\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>Close Registry Editor. Log off or restart Windows 10 for the change to take effect.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Method 2: Remove Double Blue Arrows for Certain Folders\/Files<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you just want to remove double blue arrows for a certain folder or file, just decompress it to turn off NTFS compression.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open File Explorer and browse to the folder or file with double blue arrows overlay, right-click on it and select <strong>Properties<\/strong> from the context menu.<\/li>\n<li>Under the <strong>General<\/strong> tab, click the <strong>Advanced<\/strong> button.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/folder-properties.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"363\" height=\"440\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11774\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>Tick the checkbox for &#8220;<strong>Compress contents to save disk space<\/strong>&#8220;. Click <strong>OK<\/strong>.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/compress-contents-to-save-disk-space.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"380\" height=\"341\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11775\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>If you selected a folder, then you will be prompted to tick &#8220;<strong>Apply changes to this folder, subfolder and files<\/strong>&#8221; and click <strong>OK<\/strong>. It will take some time to decompress all its subfolders and files.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/apply-changes-to-subfolders.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"388\" height=\"247\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11776\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>At this point you should see the double blue arrows has disappeared from your folder\/file icon.
