With the release of Windows 10 April 2018 Update, Microsoft brought the feature for users to limit the Windows Update bandwidth. Here we&#8217;ll show you how to set a bandwidth limit for foreground (or background) downloads of Windows updates in Windows 10.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Method 1: Limit Windows Update Bandwidth from Settings App<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/6-ways-to-open-pc-settings-in-windows-10\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Open the Settings app<\/a> and click <strong>Update &amp; Security<\/strong>.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/update-security.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"596\" height=\"409\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11731\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>On the right, click <strong>Advanced options<\/strong> at the bottom.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/windows-update.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"444\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11732\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>On the next screen, click <strong>Delivery Optimization<\/strong>.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/windows-update-advanced-options.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"401\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11733\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>On the Delivery Optimization page, click <strong>Advanced options<\/strong> at the bottom.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/delivery-optimization.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"588\" height=\"431\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11734\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>Under the <strong>Download settings<\/strong> section on the right, check the &#8220;<strong>Limit how much bandwidth is used for downloading updates in the foreground<\/strong>&#8221; option. Use the slider to set the limit for foreground bandwidth.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/limit-windows-update-download-bandwidth.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"605\" height=\"390\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11735\" \/><\/p>\n<p> \tSimilarly, you can choose the &#8220;<strong>Limit how much bandwidth is used for downloading updates in the background<\/strong>&#8221; option to control the bandwidth of Windows Update&#8217;s background downloads.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Method 2: Limit Windows Update Bandwidth Using Group Policy<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/open-local-group-policy-editor-in-windows-10\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Open the Local Group Policy Editor<\/a> and navigate to: <em>Computer Configuration<\/em> &gt; <em>Administrative Templates<\/em> &gt; <em>Windows Components<\/em> &gt; <em>Delivery Optimization<\/em>, then double-click the &#8220;<strong>Maximum Foreground Download Bandwidth (percentage)<\/strong>&#8221; policy on the right side.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/windows-update-foreground-download-bandwidth.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"598\" height=\"293\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11736\" \/><\/p>\n<p> \tIf you want to limit the bandwidth of Windows Update&#8217;s background downloads, double-click the similar policy &#8220;<strong>Maximum Background Download Bandwidth (percentage)<\/strong>&#8221; instead.<\/li>\n<li>Select the <strong>Enabled<\/strong> option, and then set how much percentage of bandwidth you want to allocate to Windows Update&#8217;s foreground downloads.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/maximum-forceground-download-bandwidth.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"426\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11737\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>OK<\/strong> and restart Windows 10.
