In this tutorial we&#8217;ll show you how to manually lock or unlock BitLocker encrypted drive in Windows 10 \/ 8 \/ 7.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Part 1: Manually Lock a BitLocker Drive<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Before you can manually lock a BitLocker drive, make sure you&#8217;ve set up a BitLocker password for your hard drive and turn off the auto-lock feature. When your system is shut down, the drive will lock itself automatically.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/turn-off-bitlocker-auto-lock.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"356\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10745\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you want to manually lock a BitLocker drive, you have to do this through Command Prompt:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the Command Prompt as administrator.<\/li>\n<li>Type the following command and hit Enter. <strong>Note:<\/strong> substitute <em>d:<\/em> in the command below with the drive letter of BitLocker drive you want to lock.<br \/>\n<code>manage-bde -lock d: -forcedismount<\/code><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/lock-bitlocker-drive.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"552\" height=\"202\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10746\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>Close Command Prompt. Your BitLocker drive is now locked and you&#8217;re unable to access it without providing your BitLocker password.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Part 2: Manually Unlock a BitLocker Drive<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Unlocking a BitLocker drive is much easier than locking it. Follow these steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open Windows Explorer and right-click on the BitLocker encrypted drive, and then choose <strong>Unlock Drive<\/strong> from the context menu.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/unlock-drive.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"564\" height=\"431\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10747\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>You&#8217;ll get a popup in the upper right corner that asking for BitLocker password. Enter your password and click <strong>Unlock<\/strong>.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/unlock-bitlocker-with-password.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"382\" height=\"280\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10748\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>The drive is now unlocked and you can access the files on it.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Of course, you can also unlock a BitLocker drive from an elevated Command Prompt.
