Control Panel exposes lots of system settings to users that you may not want to mess up. In this tutorial we&#8217;ll show you 2 simple ways to disable or enable Control Panel in Windows 10 \/ 8 \/ 7.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tips:<\/strong> <em>The Settings app is supposed to replace the classic Control Panel in Windows 10. If you want to disable Settings, you can try this method:<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/2-ways-to-hide-settings-pages-in-windows-10\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hide Certain or All Settings Pages in Windows 10<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Method 1: Disable \/ Enable Control Panel Using Group Policy<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Use the Windows key + R keyboard shortcut to open the Run command. Type <strong>gpedit.msc<\/strong> and click <strong>OK<\/strong> to access Local Group Policy Editor.<\/li>\n<li>Navigate to the <strong>User Configuration<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Administrative Templates<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Control Panel<\/strong> option from the left sidebar. Next, double-click the &#8220;<strong>Prohibit access to Control Panel and PC settings<\/strong>&#8221; or &#8220;<strong>Prohibit access to the Control Panel<\/strong>&#8221; policy on the right side.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/prohibit-access-control-panel.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"357\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10334\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>Select the <strong>Enabled<\/strong> option, click <strong>Apply<\/strong> and then <strong>OK<\/strong>. When you try to open the Control Panel, you&#8217;ll get this error message: &#8220;<em>This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Type <strong>regedit<\/strong> and click <strong>OK<\/strong> to access Registry Editor.<\/li>\n<li>Navigate to <code>HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Policies\\Explorer<\/code> from the left sidebar, right-click empty space in the right pane and choose <strong>New<\/strong> &gt; <strong>DWORD (32-bit) Value<\/strong>.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/explorer-key-new-dword.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"575\" height=\"346\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10337\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>Name your new value <strong>NoControlPanel<\/strong> and change the value from 0 to 1.\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/NoControlPanel.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"575\" height=\"239\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10338\" \/>\n<\/li>\n<li>Restart needed for the registry changes to take effect. After rebooting you&#8217;ll be unable to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/9-ways-to-open-control-panel-in-windows-10\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">open Control Panel<\/a>. If you want to restore access to Control Panel, just change the <strong>NoControlPanel<\/strong> value from 1 back to 0.
