A lot of times it is, but more often than not it become a hassle, as users do not always want to launch a CD or thumbdrive just because they put it in the computer. Aside from that, it is a fast way for viruses to spread. If a thumbdrive contains a virus, all it needs to launch itself is for autorun to initiate.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1030\" title=\"autorun\" src=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/autorun.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"332\" height=\"354\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/autorun.png 332w, https:\/\/www.top-password.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/autorun-281x300.png 281w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 332px) 100vw, 332px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Keep in mind that just because autorun is disabled you can still get to your CD or USB drive by going to My Computer and launching the CD ROM or USB drive.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to Disable Autorun in Windows 8\/7\/Vista\/XP:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Launch the <strong>Run<\/strong> dialogue box by pressing\u00a0<strong>Win + R<\/strong><em>,<\/em> then type <strong>Gpedit.msc<\/strong> and press <strong>Enter<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The Group Policy window should open. In the left pane, double-click <strong>Administrative Templates.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In the right pane, double-click <strong>System.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Scroll down\u00a0and double-click <strong>Turn Off Autoplay.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In the <strong>Turn Off Autoplay Properties<\/strong> window, select <strong>Enabled<\/strong>.
